Dr. Phil Plait rescheduled for November

Schools and Libraries

July 21, 2022

From: Central Arkansas Library System

Little Rock, AR - Join Central Arkansas Library System and the Central Arkansas Astronomical Society for a special presentation by Dr. Phil Plait as he presents, “Eclipse Across America” at CALS Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Avenue, on Monday, November 14, at 7 p.m. This free event will be open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis, as registration is not required. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. A book signing will follow. Beer, wine, and concessions will be available.

Downtown Little Rock is poised to have a front row seat to the total solar eclipse in 2024. But you can get an advanced look at it now with CALS as Dr. Plait explores what to expect during this once in a lifetime occurrence. Renowned science communicator Dr. Phil Plait will present everything you need to know to safely watch the literally out-of-this-world event, explain the science, and even debunk a misconception or two about eclipses.

After spending a decade working on Hubble Space Telescope data and promoting science from a half dozen different NASA astronomical satellites, Dr. Plait has gained a unique perspective on science and how the public understands it. He's written books on scientific misconceptions, cosmic catastrophes and even a collection of satirical nerd insults, each showcasing his passion for science as well as his sense of humor. His popular blog, Bad Astronomy -- hosted at different times by Discover Magazine and Slate, and now at SYFY Wire -- covers a lot of ground, from interesting scientific events here on Earth all the way out to the edge of the observable universe.

This event was originally scheduled for July 20, but was rescheduled due to rising covid-19 numbers in central Arkansas. CALS is dedicated to providing educational and entertaining programming in a safe environment. We will continue to adjust scheduling as needed to protect the health of attendees and presenters when we are working with indoor programming. For more information on this event, visit RonRobinsonTheater.org or contact Mark Christ at [email protected].
