Four NC House Democrats on Record Opposing Antisemitism Bill

Government and Politics

May 9, 2024

On May 8, 2024, four N.C. House Democrats opposed the SHALOM Act, which would simply codify the Working Definition of Antisemitism adopted by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (Alliance) on May 26, 2016.

As for legislation, it’s pretty simple. From the nonpartisan staff bill summary:

"The definition and examples would be used as a tool and guide for recognizing, combating, tracking, and reporting antisemitic incidents in North Carolina, and informing related training and education. The bill states that it would not diminish or infringe upon any right protected under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution or the Constitution of North Carolina."

Why do Pricey HarrisonNasif MajeedMarcia Morey, and Renee Price oppose it?

Their legislative pages and contact information have been provided as a courtesy.

"It is unconscionable after the past months of disturbing antisemitism attacks that these Democrats are more concerned with the votes of Radical Left activists than the safety of Jewish students and families," said NCGOP Communications Director Matt Mercer.
