Dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our community, Johnson County Park and Recreation District offers year-round program, activities, and special events for all ages!

To register by phone, call 913-831-3359. For all in-person programs, physical distancing and COVID-19 safe practices will be encouraged.

A reminder that while JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the 50 Plus Department at 913-826-2975 for space availability.

Aug. 1 - Soccer: International Soccer Camp Half Day (Ages 6-14)

New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner, 5 sessions, Monday through Friday, 9:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., $170 per person

Complete technical player development featuring practices from around the world in our international camp curriculum. Includes access to a virtual coaching world courtesy of Challenger Virtual, motivating players to practice more at home before, during and after their program on the field. Activity number 22114. Aug. 1 - Soccer: Tiny Tykes (Ages 3-5)

New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner, Daily, 8 to 9 a.m., 5 sessions, $100 per person

A fun introduction to soccer influenced by the very popular year-round Tiny Tykes curriculum. Includes games, activities, and adventures to introduce and develop coordination, balance, running, stopping, turning, kicking, dribbling, throwing, and catching. Activity number 22110. Aug. 1 - Museum: Sensory Friendly Monday (All Ages)

Johnson County Museum at Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, 9 a.m. to Noon, $4 per person for ages up to 18, $6 per person for ages 18 to 59, and $5 per person for ages 60 and older

Come enjoy the Johnson County Museum and KidScape in a comfortable, low-sensory environment. This limited-occupancy monthly session is designed specifically for children with sensory processing differences and Autism Spectrum Disorders, and their families. We welcome visitors of all abilities and museum experience. We also welcome hand fidgets, comfort items, weighted blankets and vests, and mobility devices.  Activity number 21635. Aug. 1 - Life Skills: Immersion Sports Spanish Camp (Ages 6-11)

Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Daily, 5 sessions, 9 a.m. to Noon, $169 per person, $186 nonresidents 

Immersion sports is a sports themed Spanish language learning camp, that teaches your child Spanish basics while also adding in FUN with new games, crafts, new vocabulary, and more. Join us as we explore the world´s Spanish-speaking countries through sports. Activity number 18362.

Aug. 1, 3 - Yoga: Yoga (Ages 14 & Older)

Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee, Mondays, 5:30 to 6:20 p.m., 5 sessions, $40 per person, $44 nonresidents 

LOW INTENSITY: Improve circulation, regulate your metabolism, and increase flexibility and coordination with this Yoga class. You will lengthen your muscles while increasing both muscle and bone density. Yoga participants of all levels are welcome. Join us for this class, and find out all the benefits of yoga in your life. Aug. 2 - Movies in the Park: “Encanto” (Rated PG)

Theatre in the Park in Shawnee Mission Park with a separate entrance at 7710 Renner Road, Shawnee, Gates open at 8 p.m., movie starts between 8:30 and 8:45 p.m., depending on sunset, FREE thanks to the support of The Parks & Recreation Foundation of Johnson County, Arvest Bank, and JE Dunn

5th of 11 through Oct. 28 - Deep in the Colombian mountains, the Madrigal family possesses an extraordinary secret. Each member of the family is able to perform magic. Yet at the heart of the family is 15-year-old Mirabel, who does not seem to possess any unusual abilities. Faced with this harsh reality, Mirabel struggles to reconcile her place within her family while searching for who she truly is.

Aug. 2 & 4 - Open Water Swim Training (Ages 18 & Older)

Shawnee Mission Park Beach, 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee & Lenexa, 5:30 to 6 p.m., $8 per person, $10 nonresidents

Looking to train for an upcoming triathlon or to change up your swim workout? JCPRD offers open water swim training on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Shawnee Mission Park Beach. All swimmers should be able to swim 500 meters freestyle and have endurance to swim in open water conditions and must bring and wear their tow buoy float at all times while in the water. Lifeguard will be on duty. All participants must be pre-registered by 10 a.m. on the day of the training. A minimum number of participants must be registered or the practice will be canceled. If a participant is registered for a canceled practice date, a full refund will be given. Aug. 2 activity number 21873; Aug. 4, 21918.

Aug. 2 - Volleyball: New Century Fieldhouse Volleyball Camp (Ages 7-14)

New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner, Daily, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., 3 sessions, $60 per person, $65 nonresidents

Get in the game by participating in this three-day summer volleyball camp. Girls and boys entering grades 3 - 8 can participate in the camp and will be split up into groups by grade and ability level. Serving, passing, setting, hitting, fun drills, and games will all be covered during the course of the camp with coaches from KC Fire Volleyball Club running the camp. Aug. 2 - Cards: Bridge Workshops - Intermediate: Rule of 5 & 20 (Ages 50 & Older)

Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty St., Overland Park, 4 to 5:30 p.m., $10 per person, $11 nonresidents

Become an in-demand partner with these bridge workshops. Fun and easy classes help you master a new subject each week. Purchase each workshop individually or take them all! Aug. 2 - Day Trip: Calling All Quilters (Ages 50 & Older)

Departs from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., $97 per person

Enjoy a day made for quilters in Hamilton, Mo. Before getting started with all things fabric, tour the Missouri Quilt Museum and see over 300 quilts from different time periods, 600 toy machines, and 200 antique machines. After lunch at a local Mexican restaurant, dive into the endless fabric shopping at four of the Star Quilt Company locations. Take a moment to check out the JC Penny Museum if you'd like. Aug. 3 - Meadowbrook Walkers (Ages 50 & Older)

Meet new people, catch up with old friends, and feel great being active at the same time! Meet at Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse for coffee and end with a 30-minute walk! Activity number 21702

Aug. 3 - Multi Sport: Totally Tots (Ages 3- 5)

Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., $3 per person, $4 nonresidents

Get active, have fun, and learn to play with new friends! Kids will get a chance to play games, learn sports, and meet new friends! Activity number 21935

Aug. 3 - Exercise: Ageless Lifters (Ages 50 & Older)

Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Wednesdays, 1 to 1:50 p.m. 5 sessions, $48 per person, $53 nonresidents 

Engage each muscle group in your entire body workout. This full body workout is achieved through high repetition sets and non-cardio exercises. This class uses dumbbells and body weight exercises. Activity number 21674

Aug. 4 - Exercise: Strength and Stretching Virtual (Ages 50 & Older)

Virtual Program, Thursdays, 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m., 6 sessions, $48 per person, $53 nonresidents

A stretching and strengthening class designed to increase strength and range of motion helping with activities of daily living. This class will take place on Zoom every Thursday. If you are unable to attend class at the scheduled time, you can request a link to watch the recorded class within seven days. Activity number 21697

Aug. 5 deadline - Soccer: New Century Fieldhouse Pee Wee Fall League (Ages 4-6)

New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner, Saturdays, 9 a.m. to Noon, 6 sessions, $65 per person

The fall indoor pee wee league is designed for kids entering preschool and kindergarten. Teams meet on six Saturday mornings beginning Sept. 10 to practice for 20-minutes followed by a 30-minute game. Format is 4 v 4 with no goalie. Parent volunteers are the coaches and will serve as the official during the game. Parents who are chosen to coach must pass a background check and complete a volunteer form and will have their child's fee waived. For questions, call 913-826-2850. Registration deadline is Aug. 5. Aug. 5 - Gymnastics: Cartwheel Clinic (Ages 6-12)

Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., $15 per person, $17 nonresidents

This co-ed skill clinic is designed for participants interested in improving or mastering their cartwheel. Emphasis will be placed on progressive drills and technique. When possible, participants will be grouped based on age and ability level. Activity number 21454

Aug. 6 - Fishing: Overnight Saturdays after 11 pm (All Ages)

Kill Creek Park, Park, 11670 Homestead Lane, Olathe, 11 p.m. - 5 a.m., permit fees vary

After 11 p.m., the park will be open for fishing only and park police officers will be on duty throughout the night. Before fishing, area anglers will need to have a valid Kansas fishing license, a Johnson County Park and Recreation District fishing permit, trout permit if fishing for trout and all appropriate boat tags, if applicable.
