Dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our community, Johnson County Park and Recreation District offers year-round program, activities, and special events for all ages!

A reminder that while JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the 50 Plus Department at 913-826-2975 for space availability.

Here’s a sampling of programs JCPRD has coming up for the week of Dec. 17-23:

Dec. 18, 22 - Gymnastics: Indoor Playground (Ages 1-5)

Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee, 11 a.m. to noon, $5 per person

Indoor Playground incorporates fun-filled playtime with obstacle courses and play gym equipment. Children up to 5 years of age will have the opportunity to focus their energy while developing strength and agility. Parent/legal guardian will be asked to sign a waiver and an adult must be present with their child at all times. Dec. 18 session, activity number 32157. Dec. 22 session, activity number 32158. Dec. 18-22 - Art Labs: Pop Art (Ages 8-15)

Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., $225 per person, $247.50 nonresidents

Bright colors, bold shapes, and fun patterns abound during this camp where you’ll explore painting, printmaking, sculpture, and more. Activity number 31054.

Dec. 18-22 - Maker Labs: Maker Camp (Ages 8-14)

Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., $225 per person, $247.50 nonresidents

Get ready to flex your creative muscles and learn new skills as you design and make mechanical contraptions and electronic creations during Maker Camp. Activity number 32712.

Dec. 19 - Cards: Bridge Workshops – Bridge Advice Mother Never Told You (Ages 50 & Older)

Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty St., Overland Park, 4 to 6 p.m., $12 per person, $13 nonresidents

Funny sayings to improve your game just like mother told you. Become an in-demand partner. Fun and easy classes help you master a new subject each week. Purchase each workshop individually or take them all! Handouts included. Activity number 31937.

Dec. 20-22 – Maker Labs: Maker Camp (Ages 8-11)

Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., $203 per person, $223 nonresidents

Dec. 21 - Lunch and Learn: History of Harmonizing (Ages 50 & Older)

Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Dr., Noon to 1:30 p.m., $29 per person, $32 nonresidents

Come join us for a true holiday treat! The quartet, Swing Shift, will perform holiday favorites and then share some history and stories about quartet music. Enjoy a buffet catered meal before the presentation. Activity number 31820.

Dec. 21, 22 (2 separate sessions) - Museum: Kids' Day Out (Ages 6-10)

Johnson County Museum at Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., $38 per person, $30.40 for museum members

Come have fun when school is out! Discover history through hands-on activities and exploration of KidScape and museum exhibits, play games, and enjoy down time. Bring a lunch, snacks, and water bottle and dress for the weather - we will go outside if we can. This program is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but you may drop off and pick up at any time. Five-year-old children can be enrolled if currently attending kindergarten. Thursday, Dec. 21, session, activity number 31663. Friday, Dec. 22, session, activity number 31664. Dec. 22 registration deadline, games begin Jan. 7 – Soccer: New Century Fieldhouse Men's Winter League (Ages 18 & Older)

New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner, Sundays, times vary, $650 per team

The winter league will consist of 8 games. Games are played Sunday afternoon and evening. League play has five field players plus the goalie. Activity number 33465. For questions, call 913-826-2850.

Dec. 23 - Gymnastics: Indoor Open Gym (Ages 4-17)

Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., $6 per person

Head to Mill Creek Activity Center for 60 minutes of unstructured, supervised gym time on all gymnastics apparatuses, trampoline, and our loose foam pit. A great opportunity for program participants to safely work on skills outside of class! Activity number 32177. Call 913-826-2950 for more information.

Dec. 23 - Art: Seussical Art (All Ages)

Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, 1 to 2 p.m., $10 per person

Come create fantastically fun art before you see Theatre in the Park's production of “Seussical The Musical” indoors at The Black Box Theater, located at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center. We’ll provide the supplies; you provide the creativity. Activity number 31052.
