Dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our community, Johnson County Park and Recreation District offers year-round program, activities, and special events for all ages!

To register by phone, call 913-831-3359. For all in-person programs, physical distancing and COVID-19 safe practices will be encouraged.

A reminder that while JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the 50 Plus Department at 913-826-2975 for space availability.

Feb. 20, 22 - Yoga: Yoga Beyond Basics (Ages 14 & Older)

Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee, Mondays, 6:30 to 7:20 p.m., 6 sessions, $48 per person, $53 nonresidents 

MODERATE INTENSITY: In this class, we'll take a deep dive in the yoga experience where we move a little faster, work deeper into our poses, and explore breathing practices more deeply! Comfort in our basic yoga class required. Please bring water and a mat. Activity number 25162. Feb. 20, 22 - Yoga: Yoga (Ages 14 & Older)

Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee, Wednesdays, 5:30 to 6:20 p.m., 6 sessions, $48 per person, $53 nonresidents 

LOW INTENSITY: Improve circulation, regulate your metabolism, and increase flexibility and coordination with this Yoga class. You will lengthen your muscles while increasing both muscle and bone density. Yoga participants of all levels are welcome. Join us for this class and find out all the benefits of yoga in your life. Feb. 20 - Museum: Kids' Day Out (Ages 6-10)

Johnson County Museum at Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., $38 per person

Come have fun when school is out! Discover history through hands-on activities and exploration of KidScape and museum exhibits, play games, and enjoy down time. Bring a lunch, snacks, and water bottle and dress for the weather - we will go outside if we can. We are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but you may drop off and pick up at any time. Feb. 20 - Bridge: Competitive Bidding Strategies (Ages 50 & Older)

Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty St., Overland Park, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., $25 per person, $28 nonresidents

Feb. 21 & 23 - Exercise: Chair Yoga (Ages 50 & Older)

Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Tuesdays or Thursdays, times vary - see below, 6 sessions, $48 per person, $53 nonresidents

Take yoga off the mat and onto the chair in these low intensity classes, incorporating breathing with movement while retaining all the benefits of yoga. Use the chair for support if needed during standing poses. Beginners welcome. Activity number 24802. Thursday program beginning Feb. 23, with same hours and costs as above, activity number 24803. Chair Yoga Virtual Program, 9:30 to 10:20 Tuesdays beginning Feb. 21,  same time and cost as above, activity number 24806. Chair Yoga Virtual Recording featuring a pre-recorded class you can use throughout the week, 9:30 to 10:20 Thursdays beginning Feb. 23,  same time and cost as above, activity number 24800.

Feb. 21 - Cards: Bridge Workshops – Opening Leads (Ages 50 & Older)

Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty St., Overland Park, 4 to 6 p.m., $12 per person, $13 nonresidents

Feb. 22 - Bingo: Love Bites (Ages 50 & Older)

Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave, Prairie Village, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., $5 per person, $6 nonresidents

BINGO! Delight in food, prizes, fun, and 12 games of bingo. Variety of prizes awarded including gift certificates. Space is limited, register early by calling 913-831-3359. Feb. 22 - Exercise: Ageless Lifters (Ages 50 & Older)

Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Wednesdays, 1 to 1:50 p.m., 6 sessions, $48 per person, $53 nonresidents 

Engage each muscle group in your entire body workout. This full body workout is achieved through high repetition sets and non-cardio exercises. This class uses dumbbells and body weight exercises. Activity number 24785.

Feb. 23 - Museum: "Away From Home" Program with Dr. Eric Anderson (Ages 16 & Older)

Johnson County Museum at Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, 6 to 7 p.m., $8 per person, $6.40 museum members.

Join Dr. Eric Anderson, Professor of Indigenous and American Indian Studies at Haskell Indian Nations University, for a special presentation. This program complements the museum’s special traveling exhibit, "Away from Home: American Indian Boarding School Stories," on display Feb. 1 - March 18. Activity number 26205.

Feb. 23 - Lunch and Learn: Meet the Mahaffies (Ages 50 & Older)

Tomahawk Ridge Community Center, 11902 Lowell Ave., Overland Park, Noon to 1:30 p.m., $29 nonresidents, $31 nonresidents 

James Beatty Mahaffie was the most successful farmer in Johnson County during his time and even today, the site is still a working farm. Join staff from the Mahaffie Stagecoach Museum as they come dressed in period clothes to share stories and history of stagecoach-era life, life on the farm, and the Mahaffie family. Lunch included. Feb. 24 - Gymnastics: Ninja Training (Ages 6-12)

Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee, 4:30 to 6 p.m., $25 per person, $27.50 nonresidents

No matter their skill level, everyone can have a blast learning to be ninjas! Training will emphasize improving strength and agility through obstacle challenges and conditioning. Activity number 24195.

Feb. 24 deadline - games begin April 1 - JOCO Spring (outdoor) Soccer Pee Wee Leagues (Ages 4-6)

Heritage Soccer Park, 17255 Lackman Road, Olathe, Saturdays with an occasional Sunday afternoon possible, $73 per player - $15 late fee for registering after the deadline

Outdoor pee wee leagues aim to develop the players soccer foundation of skill set and knowledge.  A more game like environment is introduced to build understanding of the game and introduce competition. This league will involve eight 4v4 games with two 15-minute halves with games beginning April and concluding no later than June 4. Register here.

Feb. 24 deadline - games begin April 1 - Soccer: New Century Fieldhouse (indoor) Pee Wee Spring League (Ages 3-6)

New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner, Saturday mornings, $65 per player including game day shirt

The indoor pee wee league is designed for kids in preschool and kindergarten. Teams meet on six Saturday mornings beginning April 1 to practice for 20-minutes followed by a 30-minute game. Format is 4v4 with no goalie. Parent volunteers are the coaches and will serve as the official during the game. Parents who are chosen to coach must pass a background check and complete a volunteer form and will have their child's fee waived. For questions, call 913-826-2850. Activity number 25792.

Feb. 25 - Fishing: 2023 Trout Program (All Ages)

Shawnee Mission Park, 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee and Lenexa, and Kill Creek Park, Park, 11670 Homestead Lane, Olathe, 8 a.m. start, permit and boat license fees vary by age and residency

Following trout stockings and closures to fishing at both lakes earlier in the week, a siren start at 8 am on Saturday, Feb. 25 heralds the beginning of the 2023 trout season. The district’s rainbow trout program is funded by fees collected through JCPRD fishing and trout permits. Purchasing a permit allows anglers to collect a daily limit of four trout.
