Dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our community, Johnson County Park and Recreation District offers year-round program, activities, and special events for all ages!

For more information or to register online for the programs listed here, visit JCPRD.com/Register and complete a search for any of the activity numbers listed below. To register by phone, call 913-831-3359. For all in-person programs, physical distancing and COVID-19 safe practices will be encouraged.

A reminder that while JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the 50 Plus Department at 913-826-2975 for space availability.

June 27-30 Soccer: Summer Soccer Camps (Ages 3-5 & 6-10)

New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner, Daily, 4 sessions, times, and costs vary (see below)

Puma FC coaches will be running this four-day camp over summer break. Basic soccer skills will be learned in a fun environment. Kids should wear shin guards and long socks as well as soccer cleats or tennis shoes. Each child will receive a camp T-shirt. Session for ages 3-5 is 10 to 11 a.m., $65 per person, activity number 22587. Session for ages 6-10 is 10 to 11:30 a.m., $80 per person, activity number 21589. June 28 - Social Outing: Grandkids Gone Wild at the Manhattan Zoo (Ages 7 to 16 with 50 & Older)

Departs from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., $38 per person, $40 nonresidents

Gather the grandkids and head off to the Manhattan Zoo. Enjoy a lunch at AJ's NY Pizzeria before a guided tour of Sunset Zoo. After the tour, take time on your own to shop the gift store and revisit your favorite creatures. Lunch costs on your own. Activity number 21612. If this trip is full, please consider putting your name on the waitlist, as a second bus might be scheduled.

June 28 & 30 - Outdoor Skills: Archery - Beginning (Ages 8-12)

TimberRidge Adventure Center, 12300 S. Homestead Lane, Olathe, Tuesday & Thursday, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., two sessions, $36 per person including adults, $40 nonresidents

Experience the challenging sport of archery in this coed class designed for beginners. Safety, basic fundamentals, techniques, and equipment will be covered. June 28 - Reading: Wanderlust Book Club - Leave Only Footprints (Ages 50 & Older)

Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, 2 to 3 p.m., $5 per person, $6 nonresidents

Intertwine your love of travel and a good book with a travel-themed book club. Each month enjoy the selected book from the list and conclude the month at the clubhouse with a group discussion on how it relates to your travel and how it may inspire your Wanderlust. This month’s book is "Leave Only Footprints: My Acadia-to-Zion Journey Through Every National Park” by Conor Knighton. The Emmy-winning CBS Sunday Morning correspondent chronicles his year traveling to every one of our National Parks, discovering the most beautiful places and most interesting people that America has to offer. When Knighton decided to spend a year wandering through America's "best idea," he was worried the whole thing might end up being his worst idea. June 29 - Art: Plein Air (Ages 50 & Older)

Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch Rd., Merriam, Wednesdays, 9 to 11:30 a.m., six sessions, $66 per person, $73 nonresidents

Explore the beauty of the outdoors at Antioch Park and learn how to translate it to paper or canvas by painting outdoors. Learn color mixing, light representation, and more. June 29 - Gymnastics: Ninja Training (Ages 6-12)

Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee, 12:30 to 2 p.m., $25 per person, $27.50 nonresidents

No matter their skill level, everyone can have a blast learning to be ninjas! Training will emphasize improving strength and agility through obstacle challenges and conditioning. Activity number 21460.

June 29, 30 - Exercise: Tai Chi (Ages 50 & Older)

Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Dr., Roeland Park, Wednesdays, 10 to 10:50 a.m., 5 sessions, $36 per person, $40 nonresidents)

Tai Chi offers a slow and gentle exercise with benefits in endurance, flexibility, and muscle strengthening. All experience levels welcome in this course. Activity number 21827. Thursday session; 5 to 5:50 p.m. beginning June 30, activity number 21828.

June 30 - Bingo: Outer Space (Ages 50 & Older)

Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., $5 per person, $6 nonresidents

BINGO! Delight in food, prizes, fun, and 12 games of bingo. A variety of prizes will be awarded including gift certificates. Space is limited, register early by calling 913-831-3359. Cost of admission covers food and staff time to administer the bingo program. No additional charge for bingo. Activity number 21805.

June 30 - Day Trip: Historic Arrow Rock (Ages 50 & Older)

Departs from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, 7:45 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., $99 per person

Start the morning off shopping the downtown Arrow Rock, Mo., stores and/or taking a self-guided walking tour of the many historic sites and buildings of the area. Meet at J. Houston Tavern, the oldest continuously operating restaurant west of the Mississippi. On the way down, enjoy a quick stretch at The Cheese Store. Coolers will be provided to keep purchases cold. July 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 ,8, & 9 - “School of Rock” Rated PG

Theatre in the Park, 7710 Renner Road, Shawnee (Note that the Renner Road Bridge over I-435 is not usable this summer), 8:30 pm, Tickets are $10 (plus tax) for general admission, $6 (plus tax) for youth (Ages 4-10) Children 3 & under are FREE (but require a ticket)

School of Rock - The Musical, with its sensational live kids’ rock band, is a loving testimony to the transforming power of music. May the spirit of rock be with all who pledge allegiance to Lloyd Webber’s newest hit! The box office opens at 7 pm, gates open at 7:30 pm, show begins at 8:30 pm. Buy tickets on site or online.
