Here's a sampling of programs JCPRD has coming up for the week of June 19-25

June 20-23 - Soccer: Summer Soccer Camps (Ages 3-5 & 5-12)

Heritage Soccer Park - Field #3, 17225 S. Lackman Road, Olathe, Daily, 4 sessions, times and costs vary (see below)

Come be a part of this four-day summer soccer camp. Coaches from Exceed Futbol will be instructing the camp and will cover the basics of soccer with fun drills and games each day. Each child should bring their own soccer ball, wear shin guards, long socks, and soccer cleats or tennis shoes, and bring a water bottle. Session for ages 3-5 is 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., $60 per person, activity number 21415. Session for ages 6-12 is 6:30 to 8 p.m., $75 per person, activity number 21416. For questions, call 913-826-2850.

June 21 - Movies in the Park: “Luca” (Rated PG)

Theatre in the Park in Shawnee Mission Park with a separate entrance at 7100 Renner Road, Shawnee, Gates open at 8 p.m., movie starts between 8:30 and 8:45 p.m., depending on sunset, FREE thanks to the support of The Parks & Recreation Foundation of Johnson County, Arvest Bank, and JE Dunn

2nd of 11 through Oct. 28 - Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, this animated coming-of-age story is about a young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta, and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply held secret: he is a sea monster from another world just below the water's surface.

June 21 - Exercise: Chair Yoga (Ages 50 & Older)

Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Tuesdays, 8:30 to 9:20 a.m., 6 sessions, $48 per person, $53 nonresidents

Take yoga off the mat and onto the chair, incorporating breathing with movement while retaining all the benefits of yoga.  easily from a chair. Use the chair for support if needed during standing poses. Virtual Recording is a pre-recorded class you can use through-out the week. Beginners welcome. Activity number 21681. Same dates and costs, 10:20 to 11:20 a.m. session, activity number 21683. Virtual Chair Yoga class, 9:30 to 10:20 a.m. on same dates and costs, activity number 21682.

June 21-23 - Volleyball: New Century Fieldhouse Volleyball Camp (Ages 6-14)

New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner, Daily, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., 3 sessions, $60 per person, $65 nonresidents

Get in the game by participating in this three-day summer volleyball camp. Girls and boys entering grades 3 - 8 can participate in the camp and will be split up into groups by grade and ability level. Serving, passing, setting, hitting, fun drills, and games will all be covered during the course of the camp with coaches from KC Fire Volleyball Club running the camp. June 21-23 - Volleyball: Okun June Summer Break Camp (Grades 3-8)

Okun Fieldhouse at Mid-America West Sports Complex, 20200 Johnson Dr., Shawnee, Tuesday - Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to Noon, $65 per person, $72 nonresidents

Get some quality volleyball experience with Coach Gwenn Pike! Practice serving, passing, setting, and hitting in small group drills and scrimmage-like play. Participants will be divided into groups based on age and ability. Each participant will receive a camp T-shirt. For more information, visit www.jcprd.com/youthsports. Activity number 22132.

June 21-23 - Basketball: Okun June Summer Break Camp - (Grades K-3, Grades 4-8)

Okun Fieldhouse at Mid-America West Sports Complex, 20200 Johnson Dr., Shawnee, Tuesday through Thursday, times vary, $55 per person, $61 nonresidents

Get in the game with JCPRD basketball camps at Okun Fieldhouse! Players will participate in drills, group activities, and scrimmages offering group and one-on-one instruction. Players will practice shooting, passing, ball handling, offense and defense. Grades K-3 meet from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Activity Number 22134. June 21 & 23 - Outdoor Skills: Archery - Beginning (Ages 8-12)

TimberRidge Adventure Center, 12300 S. Homestead Lane, Olathe, Tuesday & Thursday, 6:30 p.m. 8 p.m., two sessions, $36 per person including adults, $40 nonresidents

Experience the challenging sport of archery in this coed class designed for beginners. Safety, basic fundamentals, techniques, and equipment will be covered. June 22 - Day Trip: Redlining - Federal Policy and its Local Impact (Ages 50 & Older)

Departs from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., $95 per person

Learn about the federal policy on redlining and its origins and impacts still lingering today. Johnson County Museum guides will lead a tour on their REDLINED exhibit with additional access to their permanent exhibit, Becoming Johnson County. Next, explore exhibits, artifacts, and fascinating stories of history on a guided tour of the Black Archives of Mid America. Hear a presentation from staff while enjoying a boxed lunch at the archives. Activity number 21618.

June 22 - Exercise: Ageless Lifters (Ages 50 & Older)

Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Wednesdays, 1 to 1:50 p.m. 4 sessions, $48 per person, $53 nonresidents 

Engage each muscle group in your entire body workout. This full body workout is achieved through high repetition sets and non-cardio exercises. This class uses dumbbells and body weight exercises. Activity number 21673.

June 22, 25 - Martial Arts: Mixed Martial Arts (Ages 6-12)

Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Dr., Roeland Park, Monday and Wednesday, five sessions, 5:30 - 6:20 p.m., $55 per person, $61 nonresidents

Traditional martial arts techniques taught with an emphasis on awareness based self-defense and anti-bullying. Improve discipline, focus, and self-confidence while strengthening the body and mind. Activity number 22634. Session beginning July 25, activity number 22635.

June 24 - Performing Group Vocal: The Side By Side Experience (Ages 50 & Older)

Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Fridays, 10 a.m. to Noon, 13 sessions, $14 per person, $15 nonresidents

Looking for a way to sing and enjoy music with other performance lovers? This group of easy-going singers and piano players welcomes you to have fun with music regardless of your skill level. We offer weekly rehearsals with performances throughout the community during the month. Activity number 17013.

June 24 - Gardening: Desert Planters (Ages 18 & Older)

Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., $38 per person, $41 nonresidents 

What will grow and survive in the heat of the day on a July afternoon? Plant a container that will look beautiful throughout the summer. Pot, soil, and flowers included. Activity number 21741.

June 24 - Family Fun: Family Bingo - Party in the USA Bingo! (All Ages)

Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Dr., Roeland Park, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., $12 per person, $13 nonresidents, 20% discount after 3rd family member

Calling all kids! Come dressed in your red, white, and blue to play everyone’s favorite game, B-I-N-G-O. Have fun with the family as we make the game sillier and more interactive. Hot dogs, watermelon, chips, and popsicles served for lunch at 11:30 am. Bingo to follow. Winners will receive summer-fun themed prizes. Activity number 21854. Cost of admission covers food and staff time to administer the bingo program. No additional charge for bingo.

June 25 - Okun Fieldhouse Mural Project: “My Mill Creek” Traveling Mural (All Ages)

Birch Room at Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., FREE

(2 of 2) The first community engagement opportunity will be a companion travelling mural created by the community and for the community. This two-part public workshop will occur on June 4 and 25 and create an educational opportunity for participants to research, design, and create a unique, collaborative mural alongside the accomplished artist team ITRAicons. The painting of the mural, a team effort between community members and ITRAicons, will occur over the month of July. Advanced registration is required and can be completed here.

A reminder that while JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend.
