October 5, 2023

Marmion Academy is pleased to announce that ten members of the Class of 2024 have been recognized in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program.

National Merit Semifinalists

Five Marmion seniors have been named Semifinalists in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program: James Jochum, son of Paul and Felicia Jochum of Batavia; James Kennedy, son of Jim and Ann Kennedy of St. Charles; Dominic Pipitone, son of Dr. Anthony and Amy Pipitone of Wheaton; Ian Roskuszka, son of Scott Roskuszka and Julie Cibulskis of Winfield; and Nolan Sayasane, son of Tay and Jennifer Sayasane of North Aurora.

These five academically talented students will continue in the competition for one of 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring.

Semifinalist status is based on scores on the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). The nationwide pool of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists are the highest scoring students in each state and represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.

National Merit Commended Students

An additional five members of Marmion Academy’s Class of 2024 have been named Commended Students in this year’s National Merit Scholarship Program: Rory Bennett, son of Kelly and Megan Bennett of Sugar Grove; Nathan Brandon, son of Matthew and Charlotte Brandon of Batavia; Jonathan Moscinski, son of Roy and Johanna Moscinski of Woodridge; Colin Tazelaar-Kruger, son of Elizabeth Tazelaar of St. Charles and Matthew Kruger of Chicago; and Joseph Walsh, son of Joseph and Marisa Walsh of Big Rock.

Commended Students are recognized for their exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the qualifying test (PSAT/NMSQT). Although they will not continue in the 2024 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students place among the top 50,000 of all high school students who entered the competition.
