MOHAVE COUNTY TRUTH IN TAXATION INFORMATION

 Board of Supervisors to Vote on Final Budget on July 17

The Mohave County Board of Supervisors will vote on the FY2024 final budget following a public hearing scheduled Monday, July 17.? The Board, which also governs the Flood Control, Library, and Television districts, adopted a?tentative budget on June 19, 2023.

Truth in Taxation Hearing

Before the vote on the final budget, the public will have the opportunity to comment on the FY2024 budget which proposes to keep the tax rates the same.? The Board does not control property values, but as the economy grows, property values increase, and some property owners may pay more in taxes as a result.

The “Truth in Taxation” hearing is required by law and provides Mohave County taxpayers the opportunity to voice their opinion about the following proposed levies, which are exclusive of increased property taxes received from new construction:

Primary property tax increase of $1,231,683 or 3.05%, which would raise primary property taxes on a $100,000 home from $170.27 to $175.47.

Secondary property tax increase of $177,647 or 3.03%, which would increase secondary property taxes on a $100,000 home from $24.73 to $25.48. (Library District)

Secondary property tax increase of $423,799 or 4.17%, which would increase secondary property taxes on a $100,000 home from $48.00 to $50.00. (Flood Control District)

The public hearing is scheduled on Monday, July 17, 2023, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Mohave County Administration Building, 700 W. Beale Street, Kingman, Arizona. Board meetings are open to the public and can be viewed through the County’s website at www.mohave.gov. The Board of Supervisors will meet on August 7 to vote on the final tax levy proposal. About Mohave County Taxes The County is proposing a primary tax rate of $1.7547 (the same rate as FY2023) which is $0.0520 higher than the truth in taxation rate and $0.5708 lower than the maximum allowable rate. The proposed primary levy for FY2024 is $1,231,683 above the truth in taxation amount and $13,520,099 less than the maximum allowed by state law, meaning the county collects less in taxes than it could. The Mohave County Free Library District proposes a secondary tax rate of $0.2548 (the same rate as FY2023) which is $0.0075 higher than the truth in taxation rate. The Mohave County Flood Control District proposes a secondary tax rate of $0.5000 (the same rate as FY2023) which is $0.0200 higher than the truth in taxation rate.

County (Primary Tax)

In compliance with section 42-17107, Arizona Revised Statutes, Mohave County is notifying its property taxpayers of Mohave County’s intention to raise its primary property taxes over last year’s level. Mohave County is proposing an increase in the primary property taxes of $1,231,683 or 3.05%. For example, the proposed tax increase will cause Mohave County’s primary property taxes on a $100,000 home to be $175.47. Without the proposed tax increase, the total taxes that would be owed on a $100,000 home would have been $170.27. This proposed increase is exclusive of increased primary property taxes received from new construction. The increase is also exclusive of any changes that may occur from property tax levies for voter approved bonded indebtedness or budget and tax overrides.

Library District (Secondary tax) In compliance with section 48-254, Arizona Revised Statutes, Mohave County Free Library District is notifying its property taxpayers of Mohave County Free Library District’s intention to raise its secondary property taxes over last year’s level. Mohave County Free Library District is proposing an increase in the secondary property taxes of $177,647 or 3.03%. For example, the proposed tax increase will cause Mohave County Free Library District’s secondary property taxes on a $100,000 home to be $25.48. Without the proposed tax increase, the total taxes that would be owed on a $100,000 home would have been $24.73. This proposed increase is exclusive of increased secondary property taxes received from new construction. The increase is also exclusive of any changes that may occur from property tax levies for voter-approved bonded indebtedness.

 Flood Control District (Secondary tax) In compliance with section 48-254, Arizona Revised Statutes, Mohave County Flood Control District is notifying its property taxpayers of Mohave County Flood Control District’s intention to raise its secondary property taxes over last year’s level. Mohave County Flood Control District is proposing an increase in the secondary property taxes of $423,799 or 4.17%. For example, the proposed tax increase will cause Mohave County Flood Control District’s secondary property taxes on a $100,000 home to be $50.00. Without the proposed tax increase, the total taxes that would be owed on a $100,000 home would have been $48.00. This proposed increase is exclusive of increased secondary property taxes received from new construction. The increase is also exclusive of any changes that may occur from property tax levies for voter-approved bonded indebtedness.

 All interested citizens are invited to attend the public hearing on the tax increases that is scheduled to be held Monday, July 17, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. at the Mohave County Administration Building, 700 W. Beale Street, Kingman, Arizona. The public notices, schedules and truth in taxation notices will be published in the Kingman Miner newspaper on June 30, 2023, and July 7, 2023.
