The Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival 2023

From: The Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival

Capital Classics Theatre Company presents our 33rd year of outdoor Shakespeare, with the Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival production of Macbeth.

"Macbeth is one of Shakespeare's most popular tragedies," said Artistic Associate and Production Director Geoffrey Sheehan. "We first staged it back in 2006, and I'm excited to see how its themes of power and passion take on new meaning in today's world."

As Connecticut's oldest continuously running outdoor Shakespeare festival, Capital Classics has a reputation for making Shakespeare accessible and affordable. Audience members bring their family, friends, lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic dinners. As for pre-show entertainment, we can confirm the return of The Elizabethan Consort, the rollicking, joyful a capella quartet, who will bring the special blend of humor and harmony to Friday and Saturday nights. We are also happy to return our Professor Series to Sunday afternoons, with a brief lecture about the play from local experts, such as Milla Riggio (July 16), Kara Molway Russell (July 23) and Patricia McKee (July 30). Last year, the Festival attracted the largest crowds in its 31-year history and this year promises to be just as exciting.

The Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival is held outdoors (indoors in case of rain) at the University of Saint Joseph.

Macbeth and the Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival are produced by the Capital Classics Theatre Company, in partnership with the University of Saint Joseph and supported by passionate Shakespeare fans, and local businesses.
