Summer Maker Space

We’re pleased to announce the return of our Summer Maker Space program! Every Wednesday, July 5 to August 23, from 11 am to 2 pm, the Museum will offer free projects for visitors to drop by and make. The complete list of weekly projects is available on the Museum’s Facebook page, under Events.

Movies Under the Stars: “Rumble”

LOCATION: Capital Area YMCA, 431 Pennington Ave., Trenton
Movies Under the Stars provides safe outdoor movies for children and families. The program runs during the months of July and August from 6:30 to 10 pm. Showtime is 8 pm.

Take It to the Streets Neighborhood Block Party
PRESENTED BY: City of Trenton Department of Recreation, Natural Resources and Culture
LOCATION: Roebling & Whittaker Ave., Agabiti Square
Take It to the Streets is a collaboration with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, which brings activities directly to neighborhoods with few recreational outlets. The program features street basketball, bowling, skating, biking, Isle’s T-Recs Truck, moon bounces, crafts, face painting, food, music, and more activities for children and families to enjoy.

Reading of the Declaration of Independence

Trenton first took the world stage in the fight for independence on July 8, 1776, when our city hosted the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence.
Please join us for this free event, 247 years after the first reading, when Trentonians gather to read aloud the Declaration of Independence at 23 South Warren Street, the same site as the first reading in 1776.

One of the quintessential things that defines New Jersey is the New Jersey Turnpike. Join us as Michael Rockland explores the history and iconography of the New Jersey Turnpike by discussing his book “Looking for America on the New Jersey Turnpike,” as well as the many changes that have taken place since its publication in 1989.

Taste Trenton 2023 — a ‘small plate restaurant crawl’ event — has been rescheduled and will feature restaurants in Chambersburg, downtown Trenton and other Trenton locations. All participants can access participating restaurants, locations, and menus through the Taste Trenton website.

Bring a picnic and join us for this free event! Enjoy art-making activities, games on the lawn and solar observing. In the event of poor weather, we’ll move inside the Museum.
The Planetarium will also be open with free shows at 6 and 7 pm. Free admission on a first come, first serve basis.

Views from Trenton Historical Society's annual Trenton calendars, starting at noon from the sidewalk in front of the NJ State House Annex at 125 West State Street (free on-street parking on Saturdays). Tour is West State Street from the State House Annex to Warren Street including South on Barrack Street and North on Warren Street.

First Friday Curators

The Trenton Artists Workshop Association (TAWA) and the Trenton Free Public Library will present the exhibition “First Friday Curators” at the Trenton Free Public Library from June 1 – July 29. The exhibit will celebrate the talent of people who have brought art to the downtown Trenton community on the first Friday of each month.

Beyond the Tangible: Non-Objective Abstraction from the Collection
PRESENTED BY: NJ State Museum

This is a new exhibition of 26 non-objective abstract works by 22 artists from the Fine Art collection. The exhibition can be seen in the Museum’s 2nd floor gallery and features works created by American artists since the late 1930s.
