Beth Israel Congregation

115 East Holly Avenue
856-848-7272

We welcome all families of the Jewish faith as well as families where a spouse is not a member of the Jewish faith. Our members compliment us on our Hebrew education program and the friendly atmosphere of our services and social activities. We have services twice a month on Friday evening and Saturday morning. The content of the Rabbi's sermons relate to current events and Judaism in the modern world. Beth Israel Congregation is a small congregation of 55 families.

Beth Israel was founded in 1928 in Woodbury, NJ. The first services were held in the home of Benjamin S. Snyder and the Torah was kept in the cupboard of the kitchen. It soon became apparent that a permanent place of worship would need to be built. This became the focus of the membership. In 1930 the second story of a building was rented on the corner of Broad and Aberdeen Place. The Congregation decided to build their own structure in 1939. The new building was located at West Center St. in Woodbury, NJ. The congregation exceeded the limits of this building in the late 1950's. A new building fund was established and a new building built on the corner of South Warner and King Streets. The new building had and enlarged meeting hall and classrooms to accommodate the Hebrew School.

In 1972 an addition to the Chapel was built to make sure all members could pray comfortably in the Chapel and not have an overflow of congregants pray in the social hall. The building went through a major refit in the late 1980's when a roof and major renovations were completed. This is the building we use today.
