Capital City Concerts presents chamber music performed by some of the world's finest musicians, in collaboration with outstanding Vermont artists for audiences who "really get it". The performers unfailingly comment on the strong connection to and palpable warmth from the audience.

During our first decade performers have included violinists Jaime Laredo, Arturo Delmoni, Eugene Drucker, and Theodore Arm, pianist Jeffrey Chappell, clarinetist Daniel Gilbert, and soprano Hyunah Yu. In addition, we've presented internationally acclaimed ensembles, including the Paris Piano Trio, the Borromeo Quartet, and the Ying Quartet, among the most sought after groups in the world of chamber music.

Vermont musicians who have performed on Capital City Concerts include pianists Michael Arnowitt, Alison Cerutti, and Paul Orgel, string players Kathy Andrew, Dieuwke Davidov, Diana Fanning, John Dunlop, and Mary Gibson.

Capital City Concerts was founded in 2000 by Montpelier's Grammy-nominated flutist Karen Kevra. The late outstanding French flutist/pianist/composer Louis Moyse had a profound influence on Ms. Kevra’s career as a musician and flutist, concert organizer, and impressaria. Moyse was the inspiration and driving force behind Capital City Concerts. He is honored in an annual tribute concert. Ms. Kevra put it in her own words:

“I landed in Vermont two decades ago, in a pick-up truck with Quincey, my beloved 90 pound mutt. I was feeling a strong 'back to the land' allure. Pulling dandelions out of potato patches was about as different an experience as practicing arpeggios in a windowless practice room. But I fell in love with Vermont. Soon I had a new son and I was committed to making Vermont my home - about as fine a place as one could find to raise a child and make music. Life in Vermont has brought me incalculable blessings, among them my connection to my dear teacher and mentor Louis Moyse, the guiding inspiration for Capital City Concerts.”

Here's what audience members have said about Capital City Concerts:

"I can't imagine life without Capital City Concerts. I'd have to go to New York City to hear concerts of this caliber but even then I wouldn't have the pleasure of the intimacy of the lovely hall."

"The concert was brilliant. I have never attended a performance with such a compelling structure -- the four solo pieces, rivers running together towards the convergence of the trio. So elegant."

"What a magnificent concert yesterday. To be in Bach's world for a couple of hours and in the hands of musicians such as the four of you is one of the deepest pleasures in life."

"Just wanted to thank you for all you did to make this past weekend a magical musical experience. And what a turn-out! Bravo seems an understatement..."

"This is chamber music as it should be! At a very high level and in a chamber. It doesn't get any better than this! And with every packed house it really feels like THE place to be!
