Welcome to Central School, a true community of learners. Central School is a pre-kindergarten through grade five school with an enrollment of approximately 480 students. At Central we have a highly skilled staff whose members contribute to a caring and nurturing learning environment with an emphasis on meeting individual student needs. We are committed to personal growth and professional development, reflecting regularly on the processes of teaching and learning. Teachers work and plan as teams to provide a content rich, technology infused curriculum that stresses student collaboration and social and emotional growth.
As you visit Central School, you will immediately notice the student work that is displayed in the halls and classrooms. Looking into our classrooms, and sometimes in our hallways and on school grounds, you will find students who are actively engaged in the learning process. From the start of the day with clubs and our daily morning broadcast, until our students leave at 3:25, Central School is a hub of productive activity. In addition to our academic curriculum, students participate weekly in art, music, library/media, and physical education classes. To further personalize instruction, we offer students clubs, instrumental music and academic enrichment that is designed to meet individual needs.
We understand that parents are truly their child's first teachers and involve them as partners in the education of our children. Parents serve as volunteers in our classrooms during both academic and "special" times. They support our efforts tirelessly through the year by funding teacher initiatives through grants, by arranging for many wonderful cultural arts programs throughout the year, and by designing and facilitating many wonderful special events and programs both during and after the school day.
At Central School students, teachers and parents learn together. As a community we are preparing our students to take their places as informed and productive citizens of the twenty-first century.
