City of Bronson

141 South Matteson Street
517-369-7334

The City of Bronson is located midway between Detroit and Chicago on US-12, in Branch County, one of Michigan's fastest growing areas. Our city has a population of 2421 and the combined population of the city and surrounding Bronson-oriented rural areas is about 8000. Bronson is a zoned community of well maintained homes, reflecting the pride and care of the community's residents. Homes may be purchased in Bronson at a very reasonable cost. The City was chartered in 1934 and has since developed some of the finest services of any community of its size. The city includes 15 miles of paved tree lined streets maintained by a fully staffed Department of Public Works. There are an estimated 300 farms in the Bronson area. The agriculture is diversified, including dairy production, swine, beef, sheep and grain farming. Several large farms specialize in the growing of Gladioli and other flowers on a commercial basis. About 1400 acres of colorful plants are grown in the area, causing it to be known as "The Gladiolus Capital of the United States".

Bronson is truly a Water Wonderland with many lakes in close proximity to the city. As such, it has an excellent reputation as a Fisherman's Paradise. These local lakes are stocked with Bluegill, Bass, Perch, Pike, Crappie, Walleye and Rainbow Lake Trout. Public fishing sites and boats for rent are found on many of these sites. Many year round homes and cottages are located on the lakes and some are available for rent. For non-fishers, swimming, boating, sailing and water skiing are popular summer activities. Ice fishing is perhaps the most popular winter sport. For the hunter, our area contains a large deer population, rabbit and pheasant.

Our city provides five well maintained public parks designed for the enjoyment of all age groups, including: A muraled downtown memorial park, a lighted Little League baseball park, a neighborhood park ideal for children, and two other parks for older children and adults. Park facilities include tennis courts, softball and baseball diamonds, park service buildings used for Scouts and other community events, and picnic pavilions with tables and grills. The Bronson Community Foundation was created to purchase and restore the old movie theater. The Bronson Community Center is now available to any community group, thanks to the many citizen volunteers and sponsors who made this project a reality. The Bronson Family and Youth Center is home to the Bronson Area Youth Program, a joint effort by Campus Life, CYES, Bronson Schools and Area Service Groups.

The City of Bronson has a diversified population including many of German, Polish and Hispanic descent. The surrounding area also has a large number of the Amish faith who afford the local residents a wide variety of fruits, produce, baked goods, beautiful handmade furniture and quilts and are excellent woodworkers and carpenters. Located on Route US 12, the historic Heritage Trail, Bronson offers the peace and serenity of small town America at its best.
