Our Mission

"The purpose of this county department is to mobilize and utilize resources, public and private, in the Genesee County area in an attack on poverty; to provide decent housing that is affordable to low-income and moderate-income persons; to provide services, assistance and other activities of sufficient size and scope, and to give promise to programs dedicated toward the elimination of poverty, or its cause, through developing employment opportunities, improving human performance, motivation, and productivity, bettering the conditions under which people live, learn and work, and the administering of programs with the maximum feasible participation of residents served."

The Genesee County Community Action Resource Department  (GCCARD) is our organizational name, and the reason we are here is because    'we help to break the cycle of poverty.'    We are a county department that can assist people in our community in almost any way necessary.  We assure that the people in need, receive the hope and opportunity they deserve.  These opportunities may include pre-school training through our Head Start department for the young; receiving additional and/or job training in order to find a permanent job; seeking and finding of adequate housing if displaced; receiving of  nutritional meals delivered on a daily basis, or receiving home improvement repairs when necessary.

The Genesee County Community Action Resource Department (GCCARD) is an organization of individuals whose overall goal is to eliminate barriers and level the playing field for the poor, seniors, children and the hard to serve population of Flint and Genesee County.  Realizing that those we serve often turn to us as their last hope, we have dedicated ourselves to respecting the trust that the residents in need give to us.
