The faculty, staff, students, parents, and community members of Havre de Grace Middle School are committed to academic excellence. Our school program is designed to foster an appreciation of life long learning which allows individual students to develop socially, physically, emotionally, and morally as they strive to meet the demands of the twenty-first century.

Founded in 1967:

Havre de Grace Middle School opened its doors in 1967. HdGMS enrollment of approximately 600 students is drawn from three elementary schools in a mixed rural and small town community rich in history and tradition. The size of the school is ideally suited to creating a positive and warm environment for learning. Teachers and staff are able to get to know students better and students feel a greater personal significance. Many students are children and grandchildren of former students of Havre de Grace area schools. This also contributes to the deep sense of pride in the school and community and accounts for the positive and enthusiastic support from parents and community leaders.

Highlights:

An extensive program of activities during and after school is designed to enrich, extend and support learning. It's significant that a large number of students walk to school and are able to participate more conveniently in after school activities. Our classrooms are equipped with a teacher computer with Internet access, a mounted television and VCR, and technology that integrates them for enhanced instruction. Communication with parents and with the rest of the school is enhanced by a digital phone system accessed from any classroom. Other highlights include 2 networked computer labs and a fitness lab. In addition to accommodating the instructional and extra-curricular programs of the school, the facility is used extensively by the community.
