Keene Middle School embraces the educational philosophy which seeks to meet the intellectual, social, emotional and physical needs of the middle school learner. Located in downtown Keene (next to City Hall), the school provides 6th, 7th and 8th grades for the children of Keene and for several neighboring communities. KMS offers a challenging and enriched curriculum, an abundance of extra curricular opportunities and a qualified and caring faculty. The school is large, yet the "school within a school" configuration creates small communities of learning that give each child the individual identity that is so important to pre-adolescent development.

Keene Middle School has been approved by the National Middle School Association. KMS meets or exceeds all state standards as approved by the New Hampshire Department of Education. Keene Middle School is also among the very few New England middle schools that meets all of the standards for effective middle schools prescribed by the Carnegie Corporation's Turning Points.
