Lake Drive has a distinguished history of excellence and has always been in the forefront of innovative programming in deaf education, beginning nearly thirty-six years ago. As we move into the twenty-first century, we continue to meet the changing and varied needs of children with hearing loss. We will meet these needs with the same commitment to quality that has always been exhibited. Lake Drive continues to build upon its foundation of quality and strengths. Our highly trained staff supports our children in achieving and experiencing positive outcomes across all areas of programming.

Program Facts
Lake Drive Program provides a full spectrum of educational options for children with hearing loss from birth through high school graduation. (Total Communication and Auditory-Oral classroom options are available.) The school is dedicated to the development of literacy and communication so that students can function competitively within the hearing community. A team of trained paraprofessionals and other related service providers, including educational audiologists, speech/language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, social workers, counselors, and sign language interpreters, complement our highly qualified professional staff. All staff receives comprehensive training in the latest developments in technology and strategies for enhancing children's learning.

The school has a comprehensive academic program that is enhanced by allied subjects including art, music, dance, instrumental music, drama, library, physical education and extracurricular sports. All classrooms in the Lake Drive Program have a high ratio of computers to students with access to computer-assisted learning opportunities and the Internet. The Lake Drive School building also provides cable TV access in each classroom. There is a state of the art audiological diagnostic testing center which has the capacity to program cochlear implants.

Mainstream education with comprehensive support services is available throughout the Mountain Lakes school district for academically able students. In addition, there are preschool and early elementary inclusion classrooms combining community children and children with hearing loss. There is also a team of mainstream resource consultants who provide support and in-service education to students in their home school districts.
