History

The League was an outgrowth of the National American Suffrage Association, founded in 1920 to help newly enfranchised women become responsible voters. Later, the League of Women Voters broadened its activities to include all citizens.

Local leagues of Kansas provide citizen information about involvement in city, county and regional government bodies. Wichita/Sedgwick County local league was founded in 1919, making it the oldest League in the country. In 1925, League of Women Voters of Kansas was incorporated. League of Women Voters of Salina was incorporated in 1954.
