The mission of the Manteno Public Schools is to provide all students with a safe environment for quality life-long educational experiences. These experiences shall nurture one's academic, social, emotional and physical needs, enabling all to be productive members of society.
Manteno Primary School is housed in the old high school facility of Manteno Community Unit School District #5. The original portion of the facility was constructed in 1926, with the two newer wings being added in 1963 and 1966.
Extensive Life Safety work was done in 1982. New interior doors were installed and the entire interior of the original 1926 building was painted. Much work has been done over the last twenty years including the addition of building-wide carpeting in 2000. The entire interior was painted again during the summers of 2001 and 2002, and the old lockers were removed from the first grade hallway. We were the recipients of a lighting grant, so all building lighting was replaced during the 2004-2005 school year.
Our students, the Panther Cubs, encompass ages three through eight. Along with our regular kindergarten and first grade classrooms, we also house an Early Childhood program and a Pre-kindergarten program for students who qualify. Our enrollment for the current school year is approximately 360 students.
