History:

†   The first meeting to organize a Lutheran Congregation in Rothschild was held at the Rothschild Village Hall on April 29, 1956. After a survey of the    

     community, the organizational meeting at Mt. Calvary was held at the old Weston School (where the first services were held) on September 16, 1956. 

     The Rev. James P. Ullom accepted the call to become the Package Mission’s first pastor in September, 1956.

†   On December 23, 1956, the congregation held its first service in the newly-built parsonage basement at 511 Leon Street.

†   Ground was broken for the church on May 19, 1957, and the cornerstone was laid on August 11. The dedication was held on December 1, 1957.

†   On October 25, 1959, Pastor Earl P. Zimmerman was installed as pastor at Mt Calvary.

†   Due to increased Sunday school enrollment, the construction of the Parish Hall began in October 1960. Much of the labor was donated by church  

     members. The hall was dedicated on May 21, 1961.

†   With a growing congregation, ground was broken on May 16, 1965, for an enlarged Sanctuary and an educational unit with offices and a lounge. The 

     dedication was on April 24, 1966, just in time for the parish’s 10th anniversary.

†   In 1971, Mt Calvary became involved in the “Missionary for a Day” program. We currently partically support Pastor Brian & Kristen Konkol in 

    South Africa.

†   In 1974 Lana Bradfish was hired as the church secretary.

†   In September 1974, the congregation entered into the internship program and Harold M. Kruse, a student from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in 

    Columbus, Ohio became the first intern.

†   October of 1976 saw the dedication of a new and enlarged front entrance for the church. This improvement was made possible chiefly through the 

     estate of William and Anna Hill. 

†   In 1976, the congregation voted to call a Pastor of Parish Education and Youth. Pastor William B. Wake served in this capacity from August 1976 to 

    November 1979.

†   The church celebrated the 25th anniversary of its organization in 1981.

†   In 1989, the mortgage was completely paid, and there were some minor renovations and redecorations to the interior of the Sanctuary.

†   In July of 1992, Pastor Earl Zimmerman retired after 33 years of service to the congregation. Pastor Tim Lofgren then served from August 1992 to 

     June 1993 as Interim Pastor.  

†   In 1993, the congregation’s call for a new pastor was successful and Pastor Nancy I. Amacher was installed on June 6, 1993.

†   In October of 1994, a new roof was installed on the entire building.

†   A decision was made in 1996 to call a second Pastor. Hilbert A. Schultz accepted our call and was installed as Associate Pastor on August 18, 1996. 

    He left in April 1998 after receiving another call.

†   In October 1998, Pastor Nancy I. Amacher accepted a call to serve another parish in Michigan.

†   Also in the fall of 1998, Head Start began classes in the church basement and continued here until the spring of  2009.

†   Pastor Dennis W. Olson then served as interim pastor from September 1998 to July 1999.

†   Pastor Richard Gildseth served as interim pastor from November 1998 until March 2001.

†   Pastor Richard L. Block was installed on July 11, 1999, and serves as our current pastor.

†   Cheryl Guthman was hired in 2000 as part-time church secretary; she served until 2002.

†   In 2001, the congregation voted to call Becky Luett as Minister of Music and Worship, Deanna Morgan as 

    Minister of Evangelism and David Frei as Minster of Youth.

†  David Frei resigned in 2002 to work for Crossways Ministries. 

†  Mary Maly was hired as part-time church secretary in 2002;  she served until 2003.

†  David Blissett is called as Minister of Youth in 2002; he served until 2003.

†  In 2002, the Sanctuary was renovated.

†  Sara Wagner was hired as part-time church secretary in 2003.

†  In 2004, the furnaces were replaced and air conditioning was installed.

†  Deanna Morgan resigned as Minster of Discipleship in 2005.

†  Jim Bitner was hired as Office Coordinator in January 2006.

†  On February 17, 2006, Lana Bradfish retired as church secretary after 32 years of service.

†  In 2007 money was donated to redecorate the Library/Lounge.

†  Becky Luett accepts Associate in Ministry position at Grace Lutheran Church of Winchester; resigning from 

    Mt Calvary in December, 2008.

†  In 2008 ceramic tile is laid in the Kitchen and Fellowship hall.

†  Volunteer Coordinator and Preschool/Elementary Education Coordinator positions are created in 2009.

†  Lori Lynn Luedtke accepts Volunteer Coordinator position, Sue Brown accepts Preschool/Elementary 

   Education Coordinator position in 2009.

†  In 2009 the secretary and office coordinator positions are reorganized into one position. Jim Bitner and 

   Sara Hellrood-Wagner resign their positions.

†  In April, 2010 Lori Lynn Luedtke is hired as Office Administrator and resigns as Volunteer Coordinator.

†  November, 2010 the congregation votes to staff the Nursery during second service.

†  Crystal Green and Shelby Schirmer accept the Nursery Attendant position.

†  Annette Miller accepts Volunteer Coordinator position in 2010; she served until 2011.

†  Congregation votes to combine Office Administrator and Volunteer Coordinator positions and add a Financial

   Administrator position in August, 2011.

†  Sue Brown accepts Financial Administrator position in August, 2011.

†  In 2010 the Sunday School classrooms were painted and mural were drawn on the walls and in 2011 the 

   basement hallway was painted.

† In 2012 Bible verses were painted on the hallway walls.
