OUR STORY

Oakwood Community Church was established in October of 1954 by founding pastor Roger Ketterman.  After a number of years of instability, the church hired Pastor Bob Service in the spring of 1966.  There were 12 people in attendance on his first Sunday preaching.  For many years Oakwood met and worshiped in a converted little white school house on Baldwin Road, just around the corner from our current location on Oakwood Road.  Under Pastor Bob's faithful and loving care, the church steadily grew over the years until they needed two worship services to accommodate everyone in 1991.

As the church continued to grow over the next few years, it became clear that expansion of the existing church facility was not possible.  In 1999, God opened a door for the church to purchase 14 acres on Oakwood Road.  Construction began in 2001, but we soon faced difficult circumstances that threatened to bring everything to a halt.  The church came together in prayer and persevered through this trying time to complete the project.  The new facility was completed, dedicated and opened for worship services in the Spring of 2002.  Pastor Bob continued to serve at Oakwood until his retirement in 2009.  He continues to be actively involved in the church and his legacy of love and care will always live on in the Oakwood family.

Over the past 14+ years, God has continued to bless, provide for and grow Oakwood Community Church.  Pastor Don Holliday served at Oakwood from 2004-2013, strengthening the church with biblical teaching and establishing our small group ministry.  Throughout 2014 and into early 2015, Jeff Totten served as Oakwood's interim pastor and kept Oakwood working together as we searched for our next lead pastor.  In April of 2015 we entered the current chapter of Oakwood's story when God brought Pastor Don Jackson, (a.k.a., PD) to serve as our Lead Pastor.  PD is a dynamic, passionate leader and communicator who God is using to help carry on the legacy of Oakwood while working with the Elders of the church to move us forward to accomplish our mission of reaching our community for Christ.
