History

The fifth new lodge of the Bologna Administration was installed on Sunday, September 29, 1974 at the Colonie Hill in Hauppauge. Named after one of the founder of the Order, it is called the Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro Lodge No. 2319 of Smithtown. Grand Orator, John D. Dorsi, presided over the installation of over 200 members. Grand Recording Secretary, Joseph Montemarano, Assisted as Herald. Suffolk County Executive John Klein proclaimed the day Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro Day. The Lodge was sponsored by the Andrea Doria Lodge No. 2201 of Centereach. Hugo Giove was Venerable. Assisting in the formation of the Lodge was Chairman Daniel Russo and Grand Trustee Anthony Graziano, also of the Andrea Doria Lodge. The three founders of the Lodge were: Venerable Vincent Cassara, Assistant Venerable, Angelo Tropea and Guard, Frand Monteleone.

The Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA) is the oldest and largest fraternal organization of Italian American men and women on the North American continent. It was established on June 22, 1905 at 203 Grand Street in New York City by Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro and five compatriots; pharmacist Ludovico Ferrari, attorney Antonio Marzullo, sculptor Giuseppe Carlino and barbers Pietro Viscardi and Robert Merlo. The organization was created to assist Italian immigrants seeking to assimilate and to become educated. OSIA has provided a community in which men and women of Italian descent have preserved and nurtured their Italian heritage. The Grand Lodge of New York was the first Grand Lodge formed on January 10, 1911.
