Our Vision

Where God’s Love Becomes Action

How We Do Ministry

Paradise Valley United Methodist Church is a congregation in ministry. Led by laity and clergy, we work together to take Jesus Christ's message into our community. Clergy and staff equip the laity, helping them discover their gifts and helping them be involved in ministry at the place their interests, gifts and abilities intersect. We honor the contribution of clergy and staff, who are the equippers of ministry, and we claim the ministry of the laity, who are in fact Christ's unpaid servants.

Who We Are As United Methodists

The United Methodist denomination of the Christian faith exists throughout the world. John Wesley founded Methodism in the 1700’s as a reform to the Church of England. Today, we are a denomination with millions of members, residing across every continent.

As United Methodists, when we try to understand God’s message to us and to live life in accordance with the will of God, we turn to the Scripture and tradition of the church for guidance, to our own experience for verification, and to our reason for the tools with which to bring Scripture, tradition, and experience together. (Study Helps to The Holy Bible, New Revised Standard Version, Cokesbury, Nashville, 1990) This approach is referred to as the Wesleyan Quadrilateral.

We are an inclusive denomination that endeavors to become a community in which all persons, regardless of race, ethnic origin, economic condition, gender, age or disabilities can participate in every level of our connectional life and ministry. As United Methodists, we have struggled with a number of critical issues, creating and refining theological and mission statements, as well as social principles that speak to human issues of our contemporary world. We seek to be engaged actively in the world, praising God through Jesus Christ and seeking further grace as we minister to the world.
