Prairie View Unified School District 362

13799 Kansas Highway 152
913-757-2677

Prairie View USD #362 is located in the southeastern corner of the state of Kansas, approximately fifty miles south of Kansas City, Kansas. The district is a consolidation of LaCygne, Fontana, Parker, and Centerville.

In the late 1960’s, a bond election was passed for the construction of Prairie View Junior-Senior High School. The building was completed in the fall of 1970. Prairie View Junior-Senior High School is the only secondary school serving USD#362. There are forty-three rooms including offices, two gyms plus locker rooms, a library and a cafeteria in the academic building.

Another bond election was passed in 1996 to fund a middle school and fine arts facility. These buildings are adjacent to the existing junior-senior high school and the administrative building and are connected to form one large building. The junior-senior high school became the high school for grades 9-12 and the middle school is the home for grades 6-8.

The new facilities include eleven regular classrooms, three science classrooms, an art room, two computer labs, serving kitchen, commons area for use as a cafeteria and other uses, a gymnasium with locker rooms, and an auditorium with seating for 750. The middle school was designed to facilitate the use of grade level teams.

Due to faulty construction work, the building in progress was razed in August 1999 and rebuilding was completed with a different contractor in charge of the project. Classes were first held in the new complex in the fall of 2000.

There are three elementary schools in our district. The smallest one located in Fontana, in southern Miami County, serves students K-5. The second elementary is located west of Prairie View, in Parker, and serves students Preschool through 5th grade. The largest elementary is located to the east of Prairie View, in LaCygne, and serves Preschool through 5th grade.
