Rotary Club Of North Andover

About Us:

What is Rotary? With 1.2 million members worldwide in 160 countries, Rotary is so many things, and yet, it all can be reduced to a single phrase: Rotary is Humanity in Motion.

The first Rotary club was established 100 years ago in Chicago. The organization, Rotary International, is still, a century later, comprised of individual clubs who elect their own officers, set their own agenda and carry out the mission of Rotary in their own communities. That mission is to promote world peace through understanding; to create community leaders who dedicate themselves to addressing the needs of their community in a selfless, compassionate way; and to provide opportunities for youth to further their education and to experience the world through cultural exchange.

The Rotary Club of North Andover was chartered in February of 2002 as an out-growth of the Andover Rotary Club. Long time Rotarian, Carl Melander, recognized that North Andover could draw upon the outstanding pool of local citizens to form a club. A meeting place was chosen which soon was outgrown as the membership grew. Today we meet every Thursday morning at 7:15 AM for a breakfast meeting at the Cochichewick Lodge (19 Johnson Street) in the Olde Center of North Andover.

Our ranks include men and women from a variety of professions and careers. Each brings a common need to be fulfilled- the need to be of service. Hence our motto: Service Above Self. Although the work of the club is serious, we are determined to address our projects with good will, optimism and with a fun spirit.

Every Rotarian is proud to be a member of an organization that has accomplished so much around the world. (No other private organization has done more to eradicate polio from the face of the Earth.) Our greatest pride is in hearing the stories of those whose lives have been influenced in some way by a Rotarian who took the time to care... and how often that person became motivated to serve others as well. Like the Rotary wheel, good things have a way of coming back around.
