Somerville Metro Lions Club

The Somerville Metro Lions Club (SMLC) is a service organization composed of dedicated citizens in the Somerville area and its neighboring towns. The club aims to be of service to the community, in line with the Lions Club International's motto 'We Serve'.

SMLC was chartered with 26 members last June 30, 2007 under the umbrella of Multiple District 16D of New Jersey Lions and through the direction of its guiding Lions, Tony Abaño and Larry Massaro. At present, the club is composed of 30 members, representing 9 towns in the Somerville area.

SMLC was conceived in the spring of 2007 when then District 16D Vice Governor Tony Abaño approached Ray Tigol to form a Lions Club in Somerville. Together with Rogel Bautista, Jack Domider and Prospero Tayco, Ray pursued the formation of the club, under the guidance of Tony Abaño and Larry Massaro. The rest is history. The club was formed with 26 members, with Ray Tigol becoming the charter president. As a new Club, SMLC started being one of the first clubs of District 16D with family membership, i.e., husbands and wives joining together.
