3911 Grand Central Avenue

About Us:

St. John United Methodist Church started as a Sunday School on June 26, 1921 in the old Vienna School building. The Reverend F.H. Capehart, pastor of the First United Brethren Church in Parkersburg (now Christ United Methodist Church) was the leader.

In February of 1922, the church moved into the basement of what is now St. John United Methodist Church. On May 14, 1922 the congregation moved into the sanctuary and the church was dedicated.

The church began as a United Brethren Church in 1921. In 1946, the Evangelical and United Brethren merged and the church became the First E.U.B. Church of Vienna. In 1968, the E.U.B. and the Methodist churches merged, and became St. John United Methodist Church.

St. John has helped form three new Churches in the Vienna area: East Vienna, Rosemar, and Sand Hill United Methodist Churches. Over the years, there have been 32 men and women go into the ministry.

St. John United Methodist Church enjoys ethnic diversity. The church has been and continues to be a lighthouse on the corner of Grand Central Avenue and 40h Street, Vienna, West Virginia. We are a caring/loving church. When you visit St. John, you will be welcomed with open arms and invited back when ever you can come.
