St. Stephen's Episcopal Church

Mission :
The Mission of the Episcopal Churches of Oxford is to share the Gospel and the love of Jesus Christ.

The Episcopal Churches of Oxford are two congregations, one a parish and one a mission, who carry out Christian ministry on both an individual and joint basis. The two churches are part of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina. Each church is governed by a vestry whose members serve for three year terms. The vestries meet separately on a monthly basis and jointly once per quarter.

Founded in 1823, St. Stephen's present church building was completed in 1905. We recently celebrated our 175th anniversary on October 25, 1998.

St. Cyprian's was founded in 1909 as a mission church, and the present church building was completed in 1959.

While St. Stephen's membership of approximately 280 is predominantly white and St. Cyprian's membership of approximately 50 is predominantly black, the two churches have, for the past twenty-seven years, shared the services of one full-time priest and vicar. While each church maintains its own separate identity and style of worship, we have become accustomed to sharing with and caring for one another through worship, fellowship, prayer, and commitment to Christian Outreach in our community and beyond.
