The Green Thumb Initiative

4024 W. 94th Street

When you shop at Ranchmart Ace Hardware anytime between May 7th & June 18th, buy an extra flower, plant, mulch, or any gardening item and the all volunteer staff from the Green Thumb Initiative staff will deliver, design and maintain a small garden for people that are unable to maintain a garden of their own.  Recipients of the initiative include physically and mentally challenged adults, shut-ins and the elderly.

This Friday from 4-7pm, The Green Thumb Initiative will have its kick-off celebration at Ranchmart Ace Hardware, 3801 W. 95th St. (the SE corner of 95th & Mission Rd.) in Overland Park. The duration of the program is six weeks, which corresponds to the buying/planting season for most gardeners.

The entire program was outlined and developed in only two weeks, after a wheelchair-bound person was befriended by an employee of Ranchmart Ace Hardware who offered to supplement his garden with plants from her own garden. It's a great human interest story, but what makes it more appealing is that it is a one of a kind program that will not only bring beauty to the lives of persons in need, it will also bring much needed companionship.

I have posted more information including a "Fast Facts" pdf download outlining all aspects of the program, available online:
