The United Methodist Church was formed in 1968 through the unification of the Evangelical United Brethren and Methodist denominations April 23 through May 6, 1968.

Following this Uniting Conference, the many annual conferences of the two denominations began the process of unification on a local level. Kansas West United Methodist Conference was one of the first to do so on July 30, 1968, at First United Methodist Church in Wichita. Bishops W. McFerrin Stowe and Paul W. Milhouse presided over the uniting conference.

The Kansas West United Methodist Conference’s mission is to be a spiritually alive and growing network of communities of faith, fulfilling the call of Jesus Christ through ministries of education, witness and compassion.

The present Kansas West United Methodist Conference was formed in 1968 by the merger of the Kansas Conference of the Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Central Kansas Conference of the Methodist Church. The conferences were combined through the unification of the Evangelical United Brethren and Methodist denominations in April 1968.
