Union City (population 1,804) is located in northwest Branch County ten miles north of the City of Coldwater. Union City is a small picturesque and historic community conveniently located between the greater Coldwater and Battle Creek areas. Union City has turn-of-the-century architecture, with well-preserved downtown buildings and Victorian style homes as well as a renowned bed and breakfast inn. A Civil War monument can be seen on the north end of downtown, while a veteran's memorial along the riverbank to the south end stands to commemorate those who fought in more recent wars.
Justice Goodwin first settled Union City in 1833, when he built a mill here and became the first postmaster, calling it "Goodwinville." A year later, he sold several hundred acres to E. W. Morgan, who officially platted the site, renaming it from the "union" of the Coldwater and St. Joseph Rivers, which join here. It was eventually incorporated as a village in 1866 as the Village of Union City.

Union City is a historic community with modern amenities. Wireless internet access, public water, sewer and electric utilities, commercial gas, cable television and telephone utilities and municipal services (police, fire and streets) are all available to residents and businesses. Downtown Union City boasts its own hardware store, pharmacy, five and dime, grocery, restaurants, banks and other service and retail businesses.
